The King was attending a state banquet at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday to welcome South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.
In addition to the tiara, Princess Catherine wore a white dress with silver beads by British fashion designer Jenny Packham.
The Lover’s Knot tiara was also a favorite of the former Princess of Wales, Diana.
It features a series of pearl drops suspended from diamond knots on the top of the headpiece.
The piece is over a century old and was commissioned by Queen Mary, the late Queen Elizabeth’s grandmother, between 1913 and 1914, the court jeweler reports.
Kate paired the tiara with her favorite earrings which belonged to her mother-in-law Diana and a bracelet which belonged to Queen Elizabeth.
The dress was completed with the Royal Family Order and the Dame Grand Cross star and sash of the Royal Victorian Order.
The princess was seen arriving by car at the palace alongside her husband, Prince William.
Ever since photos from the evening were shared on social media, royal fans have been angry at Kate’s ‘stately’ look.
“There’s always that wowza image at an event and #PrincessCatherine never disappoints. Just beautiful!” read one tweet.
“Princess Catherine looks simply stunning tonight,” said another.
“Obsessed with Catherine’s outfit,” added a third.
Camilla, Queen Consort, also wore her first tiara since receiving a new title.

Charles’s First State Dinner
The former Duchess of Cornwall was seen in a sapphire and diamond tiara her late mother-in-law wore during a state visit in 2015.
She paired the tiara with a blue sash and matching sapphire earrings and necklace.
Before guests arrived, King Charles and Camilla inspected the table arrangements for the evening, as seen in a Twitter video shared by the Royal Family.
The lavish table was decorated with over 100 candles, seasonal fruit and flower arrangements.
Throughout the South African President’s visit, William and Kate proved the added responsibility they have taken on since becoming Prince and Princess of Wales.
The couple welcomed President Ramaphosa on behalf of the King at the Corinthia Hotel and accompanied him to the parade of the Horse Guards where he received a solemn welcome.
After the welcome, the president and the royal couple rode in a carriage procession to Buckingham Palace.
