The internet is full of recommendations. Every day, you probably come across kitchen appliances, trendy ingredients, and viral recipes that are so popular that you wonder if it’s worth trying. So Redditor u/rifain asked, “What product [did] Are you looking forward to trying the internet and what was your experience once you tried it?” Here’s how people responded.
1.
“A Kitchenaid stand mixer. I had read about it for years and as a keen baker I had coveted one for a long time. When my hand mixer finally died I thought the time was right. just bought one and yes it has been absolutely fantastic I use it at least twice a week.
2.
“For me it was the Old Bay seasoning. We don’t have it here in France, but I kept reading about this great product (especially for seafood). I couldn’t bear not not try it another day, and I bought a can of Old Bay on Amazon. So far I’ve used it for ratatouille, shrimp and for chicken. It’s pretty good, but so useless in my opinion. I’m used to cooking with herbs and spices. I understand how Old Bay helps with a quick recipe or for someone who isn’t interested in investing the time to learn more on spice, but that was of little value to me.”
3.
“An Instant Pot. I finally took the plunge and used it three days a week for two years. Pressure cookers are really awesome.”
4.
“Meal kits. Tried one for a while but my partner and I agreed it would be a lot more economical to just save the recipes they sent in for the first three months and then purchase the ingredients at our local grocery store. Our biggest complaint while trying the product was the excessive amount of unnecessary packaging.”
5.
“Better than Bullion. This stuff is so good. It completely replaced dry bullion cubes and canned broth for me.”
6.
“Nutritional yeast. I love this stuff on popcorn, but I don’t think it’s very good on things like soup or salad. It’s a staple in my pantry, but in as far as I’m concerned, it’s a one-trick pony used only for seasoning popcorn.”
seven.
“Japanese Kewpie mayo. It’s hard to know where I live because it’s so popular, but I have to admit, it honestly tastes better than your grocery store’s generic mayonnaise.”
8.
“I watch a ton of home cooks on YouTube and the one trending food that stands out for me is pickled red onions. So many people swear by these things, and the hype is absolutely warranted, I still have them in the fridge now.”
9.
“All the bagel seasoning. I love it, and it’s made with tasty ingredients that I don’t usually keep on hand.”
ten.
“Chilli Oil. Through my Instagram feed, I’ve tried a bunch of different Chilli Oils, from Trader Joe’s version to Fly By Jing and Momofuku’s. I can honestly say this is one ingredient I can’t. don’t pass me by. Just a little scoop of this stuff adds so much flavor to anything I cook, whether it’s simple noodles or basic roasted vegetables.”
11.
“A good cast iron skillet. I seasoned it from scratch, made a steak and immediately recognized the magic.”
12.
“Reddit finally made me take the leap into buying MSG. I’m now adding it to all my home cooking and haven’t looked back.”
13.
“Smash burgers. Cooking burgers this way turned out to be everything advertised and more. I really can’t go back to how I used to make burgers.”
14.
“High-quality canned fish. I’ve been a lifelong fan of canned fish, which is having a real moment in the spotlight thanks to TikTok. I recently splurged on high-quality ingredients like tuna belly packed in olive oil and mussels in escabeche. The flavor is amazing and they make the easiest and fastest meals when I’m in a hurry.”
15.
“Dalgona coffee, that whipped coffee drink that was taking over the internet. It looked good, but ended up being too sweet and chewy.”
16.
“Fresh truffles. I wanted to like them but I didn’t like the taste. I see chefs using them in all types of fancy dishes, but personally I didn’t enjoy them. I prefer to use chanterelles, morels or a giant Portabella in my kitchen instead.”
17.
“The most recent “hype” product I bought was an air fryer. I got the Ninja and I can confirm it’s THE BOMB. »
18.
“This viral TikTok tomato feta pasta. It’s a staple in my house now and one of the meals we eat on rotation. Worth a try if you haven’t !”
19.
“A sous vide. It really is the best steak ever. It’s so tender. This gadget was a game changer.”
20.
“Almost every recipe that has become famous on social media. These things are almost never worth making. Remember those trendy cloud eggs? It was all that work for something that, well…taste like an egg.
21.
“Homemade pasta. I had seen people make it online and I thought it would take too long and it would take too long, but man, going from pre-packaged store bought to fresh pasta has been amazing My husband gave me the Kitchenaid attachment, which makes it easier, now I make homemade pasta on Sundays and freeze it for the week.
22.
“All cauliflower, from rice and pizza crust to fried cauliflower ‘wings’. Why can’t cauliflower be satisfied with what it is? It’s a perfectly delicious, and I fear it will be given a complex.
23.
“Mason jar salads. I saw these on Pinterest. Sure, they’re pretty, but it’s awful trying to eat a salad out of a jar. If you pour it into a bowl, you have so two dirty dishes. It just makes a whole lot more sense to prepare and eat your salad from a food storage container.”
24.
“Pure Kerrygold Irish Salted Butter. The internet loves that stuff. IMO it’s good, but it’s not special enough to warrant the idea of paying more for it.”
25.
“Overnight oats. I’ve tried recipe after recipe after seeing this breakfast on blogs, YouTube, TikTok, etc. IMO they taste terrible. They don’t get gooey, delicious, or comforting. They’re a little less dry in a pool of liquid and other ingredients which also become sad in the process.”
26.
“Cookie butter. I finally tried it for the first time at the age of 20. All I can say is that it is without doubt the greatest invention that the Belgians have ever invented. J love using it to make desserts like New York cheesecake butter cookie with a Biscoff cookie crust.”
27.
“An immersion blender. I don’t know how I managed without it for so long. It’s perfect for soups and sauces. You don’t have to worry about transferring food to and from a blender. With a whip, you I’ll never mess up an emulsion again.”
28.
“Acai. Pretty much any ‘superfood’ sounds unpalatable to me, but acai has the added benefit of also tasting awful.”
