On Wednesday, October 26, 11 FFA members attended the FFA National Convention held in Indianapolis, Indiana. The group traveled to the opening session of the 95th National Convention and Expo.
After the session, we wandered around the expo/career fair. Members worked on assignments to visit a few colleges and businesses to see which careers are currently the most available.
On Thursday, FFA members went to different student workshops to learn about advocacy and personal growth. After the workshops, FFA members walked around the Expo a little more. After the Expo, the band went to the night session where we saw Delana Damman receiving her award.
There were two National Agriscience Finalists in our FFA panel of FFA members, Delana Damman and Ella Richer. Damman was a national finalist in the area of food systems. Delana’s project was the comparison of proteins, solids and fats in goat’s and cow’s milk. She placed 4th in the third division.
Ella was a National Finalist in Plant Systems. Ella’s project looked at the effects of growing cereal rye with annual ryegrass as a cover crop. On Friday we went to the morning session to see Ella receive her 3rd place finish.
After the session, the group visited the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where we drove around the track. The tour stopped at the famous bricks on the fast lane and a few members kissed the bricks.
Even though Andrew Hulbert and Grace Schnitkey weren’t at the convention, they were still credited with earning the American FFA degree. On Saturday, the group visited DeBrand Chocolate Company in Fort Wayne.
Since the convention, members have made signs and career sayings to help show off what they have learned. Additionally, articles were written to share with donors who helped pay for the trip.
November brought activities such as the Fall Sales Closing, Job Interview Career Development Event and Toys for Cheer. The Chapter will place final orders for several products by the end of November. The officers also competed in the Fulton County Parliamentary Procedural Contest, placing 4th.
On Friday, November 18, seven members joined members from all Fulton County chapters to collect toys and money for the Toys for Cheer portion of Christmas Cheer.
Kelly Wyse placed 3rd in the State FFA Job Interview competition for Division 5, Freshman Year Junior and Seniors. The county and district were in person and the state was held virtually. She filled out a cover letter, resume, application, interview, and then wrote a follow-up letter.
